Circleville Juvenile Correctional Facility Housing Replacement
About this Project
Project Description: The Circleville Juvenile Correctional Facility (JCF) is located on 42 acres (18 acres within the fence) in Circleville, Ohio, in Pickaway County. The facility is accredited by the American Correctional Association and houses general population male youth between the ages of 12 and 21.
This project involved the demolition and replacement of the existing housing buildings at Circleville JCF. The total scope of the project provided 6 housing units of 24 sleeping rooms plus programming space. Each of the 144 sleeping rooms has a water closet and lavatory; shower rooms were located in adjacent spaces for easy access. After the new space was occupied, the older housing units were demolished. The new construction provided the opportunity to securely meet the housing needs of youth, while also supporting:
Individual and group treatment
Unit Management
Education and job skills training
Recreation
Volunteer and community services
HVAC design included a heating water piping system with pumps and water treatment; high-efficiency fire-tube hydronic boilers; energy recovery units; split-system air-conditioners; cabinet unit heaters; propeller unit heaters; HVAC air distribution including ductwork, dampers, exhaust fans, and terminal boxes; and direct-digital temperature controls. A variable-air-volume system provides each sleeping room with necessary ventilation and exhaust.
Plumbing and fire suppression design included a full fire suppression system and plumbing fixtures.
Electrical design included LED lighting to supplement daylight via clerestory glass. Safety and security design included a fire alarm system, as well as full door lock / access control via hand-held tablets. Emergency power for the entire facility is provided by an emergency generator.
